Anyway nice writeup. I try to avoid chains where I can, mostly because I always end up on the losing end when the dust settles.
Are you offering payment? My pirate could use some gold ever since those blasted watermoles through my treasure in a volcano .

The main point of this guide it to help you understand how chains work so you can learn how to win them. I'm finding most of my strategy is knowing which chains to avoid, which to use for extra attacks, and how to train my comps to make best use of chains. I try to use chains to my advantage when I can and save the chains I would lose for last.

    @Everyone, awesome debate .

I can't wait until I can understand this! After a few more levels and battles, will come back and read again. Won't have far to go, bookmarked it! Awesome job! I so appreciate the folks that take the time to do these, unbelievably helpful!

    Re: Chain Theory

Very interesting. Something I'd like to add is that from observation, if a unit has Relentless 2 and Blade Storm (or their ranged counterparts), scenario 1 has a chance of happening while scenario 2 doesn't seem to:

    scenario 1:
    unit uses regular attack
unit triggers relentless (x1 or more)
    enemy dies
    unit triggers blade storm
    unit doesn't trigger relentless

    scenario 2:
    unit uses regular attack
unit triggers relentless (x1 or more)
    enemy dies
    unit triggers blade storm
unit triggers relentless (x1 or more)

In short, relentless/burst fire/mojo echo chains don't tend to trigger again if the enemy dies and blade storm triggers. I might be wrong but I've never seen scenario 2 happen.

The problem is it is impossible to prove a negative. Since relentless/burstfire each have a chance of working it is hard to tell what actions give a shot at appearing. I have seen scenario 2 occur before...just not recently so there is a chance it has changed. I've noticed brustfire/relentless have be triggering less often in general so it wouldn't surprise me if it has changed. The fact that we train those talents on pretty much every companion that can means it is a fat target for a quiet nerf, just like the damage is now weighted down for quickdraw/firststrike and up for veng/rip/true grit. I think ki would like every talent to be roughly equal.

Jobu's Ruse belongs under Quick Adjust for WD's btw ^-^

Awesome thread btw. Very useful for starting Pirates!

Oh, also a fun series of attacks that happened last night in the pvp arena:

    Egg Shen attacks (normal)
    Kan Po blocks
    Egg Shen attacks (Second Chance)
    Egg Shen attacks (Relentless)
    Kan Po blocks
    Kan Po Ripostes (crit +2)
    Kan Po attacks (Relentless)
    Kan Po Ripostes (crit +3)
    Kan Po attacks (Relentless)
    Egg Shen attacks (First Strike)
Kan Po attacks (Relentless crit +1)
    Egg Shen is defeated

Kan had 2 Riposte and 2 Relent
Egg had 2 Relentless, 1 First Strike, and 1 Second Chance

Interesting, I would have thought that Egg Shen's First Strike would have activated before Kan Po's first Riposte.

Are you suggesting that the damage has changed for Quick Draw and First Strike? They've always done less damage than a normal attack.

Vengeance Strike does normal damage; Riposte does increased damage. It's been that way since launch.

Since launch are the keywords there . I was referring to beta before they started to really balance everything (i.e. before the big reset).
