    Guide to Bumping

    What is Bumping?

When you’re searching through the forums, you occasionally stumble upon a post that says “Bump,” right? Then you’re wondering what it means. You see, bump actually stands for Bring Up My Post. How does bumping work? For example: if you get a really good idea and you want everyone to see it, but nobody posts on your thread, what do you do? You bump! Bumping puts your thread on the front page of its forum and the what’s new page, and it will stay there for a moment… or two, depending on how busy the day.

    Ways to Bump

When bumping, there are many ways to do it. You could be casual and just post. The classic way of bumping is just by posting “bump,” yeah, simple. You can get a bit creative and post: Bring

    Up

    My

    Post

Some others get really creative and do something along the lines of “bumpity bumpity bump…” I’ve even seen:

    Bananas
    Under
    My
    Pillow

As long as it spells out bump, it’s still considered a bump.

    How Often to Bump

You should only bump once a day. Bumping your thread a whole lot of times isn’t really good. It can lead to your thread being reported then deleted. Now how are you going to show off your idea, huh?

    What you should Bump

Threads you should bump are threads like RPGs that aren’t attracting anybody or Forum Minigames that nobody is playing, threads like that. The bump is also used often in the clans, guilds, and social groups forum. Also, the threads you bump should be pretty recent. Please only bump threads that our forum needs to know about, none of us want to read threads about stuff we already know about.

    What you shouldn’t Bump

Here’s the main idea: Don’t bump old threads! Considering on how old this forum is, the problem isn’t too big… yet. Still, by bumping old threads, others can get confused. For example, if you bump an old thread, others might think they’re posting on a new thread, but they aren’t. In some worse cases, expired contests, old RPGs, completed auctions, things like that, are bumped and others think they’re still live. So please, don’t do it! Let those threads die peacefully and let our forum grow. Nobody wants zombie threads around here.

Oh by the way, if I made a mistake or you want to add to the guide, feel free to comment about it, I'll happily give you credit!

    Re: Guide to Bumping

Thank you for this guide! I think the major problems are 'bumping' to often and 'bumping' old threads. Be sure to check the date before you BUMP1 (:
Thanks again, BB! I hope this helps out the new members who are confused with the whole bumping concept.

    Re: Guide to Bumping

Thanks for posting the guide! Some users don't know what bumping is, and this explains it really well.
Maybe mention that Bumping a thread is used in Forums like Clans Guilds and Social Groups, rather often.
    Not much, but everything helps!

    Re: Guide to Bumping

From what I remember I do think the "OP" or thread maker can bump their own old thread.

And this is a helpful guide for people who are not familiar with what bumping is.
