Re: Pirate101 Central's Spooky Short Story Contest

    Jack:

It was around noon and the sun was shining. Jack was napping in the field with a few of his pals.

Suddenly, a pair of hands grabbed Jack. Jack struggled with no success. He attempted, but no sound came out. Jack was taken to a car where a bag placed over his head.

After about 20 minutes the car stopped. Jack was placed on a table. The bag was lifted from this head. Jack was now in a room. There was only a set of stairs, and a light bulb in this room. All the walls were made of cement.

Then, he heard the shrill laughter of his captor. Jack was terrified. He didn't know what to do. Suddenly Jack was turned around. All he saw was a gleam of knife. His captor raised his hand, and plunged the knife deep inside Jack's heart.

Jack had the worst Halloween ever!

    Sally (Point of View):

Sally was ecstatic. She couldn't wait to get her first pumpkin. When her mom drove her to the pumpkin patch, she was bouncing all over the place. Sally ran around, looking for the perfect pumpkin. After 30 minutes, she finally found it. The perfect pumpkin.

"This one! This one!" she yelled.

Her mother picked up the pumpkin and put it in their cloth bag. The 20 minute car ride home felt like forever. Finally, they arrived at the house. Sally raced to the basement. She uncovered her pumpkin.

Sally giggled. She was going to make the best jack-o-lantern in the neighborhood. She turned her pumpkin around. She was about to go for the kitchen knife when her dad walked in the basement.

    "Whoa there kiddo, safety first."

He took the knife and began carving the pumpkin. Sally watched with fascination as her dad carved eyes and a mouth for the pumpkin. Eventually their pumpkin was complete. Sally took a candle and placed it inside the now hollow pumpkin. Sally's dad used a lighter to light the candle. As she was trick-or-treating, Sally was sure to tell everyone about the amazing jack-o-lantern they had.

Sally had the best Halloween ever!

Re: Pirate101 Central's Spooky Short Story Contest

A Visit With the Witch Doctor
With the moon full and the woods spooky on the eve of the Hallow harvest, the creatures of the night come out to sneak and scare. Nestled in the sickly, thin, haunted trees, beneath the blanket of bone-chilling fog, lives a witch doctor. She stares into the white, ghostly light of the fire in front of her with glazed eyes, poking out from under unruly grey hair. Her pet crow, perched on her left shoulder, glares at you with one black beady eye and then the other. It squawks and she smooths its ebony feathers down with her weathered and arthritic hand. She cackles quietly to herself as if she had heard something funny the bird had said. She said that all who entered the woods became part of the “Night Ones”.
“The Night Ones won’t harm you though,” she whispered, her old voice scratching her throat on its way to your ears. Then, she cackles at the terrified look on your face, her laughter filling the crisp and once empty air.
Twigs start to snap behind you, slowly drawing nearer. The hair on the back of your neck stands on end, like a spooked black cat with its back in an arch. The witch doctor’s glazed eyes widen like in shock, but no other part of her face indicates fear. She chants in a low, gravelly voice and the dried leaves on the ground around you and the witch doctor begin to rustle. A dark shadow appears behind her and stares into your soul with its white oval eyes that lack pupils.
The shadow warps in front of her and hovers above the milky flames. Its form starts to buzz and it slowly floats closer to you. It lifts its arm and covers your face with its inky black hand. Everything fades away.
The shadow’s warmth fades and the hand comes away from your face. Sitting up, you slowly look around and realize that it was all a dream. Even still, nothing had ever felt so real.
That evening, walking past the woods on the way home, you hear, on the whisper of the breeze, the soft cackle of the witch doctor and the screech of her pet crow. You turn toward the source of the sound and see, peeking through the spindly trees, two oval. White. Pupil-less eyes.

Re: Pirate101 Central's Spooky Short Story Contest

It was the end of the school day and Gracie's father had still not come to pick her up yet. There was no one left at school except for the crossing guard who was required to stay at the school until all the students left to ensure their safety. Gracie was waiting in the parking lot attempting to finish her homework when suddenly a green mist seemed to appear out of nowhere. Gracie had been very absorbed in her textbook when she suddenly heard a sound like someone was choking.
She looked up and saw the crossing guard doubled over and coughing. Suddenly he stood up and turned toward her. His eyes glowed strangely bright green and he started walking slowly towards her. Gracie hesitantly started backing up. The crossing guard suddenly growled and lunged towards Gracie. She screamed and ran towards the school. She sprinted up the steps to the closest building which was the athletic center, but when she reached the doors found it was locked. Gracie heard the steps of the crossing guard coming closer and remembered that one of her teachers lived close to the school. Gracie had seen her teacher's children walking to school from the direction of the soccer fields and ran towards them. She ran past until she came across a row of houses. Gracie couldn't remember which house was her teacher's. She turned around and saw the crossing guard still coming after her. Gracie furiously knocked on the door of the first house on the street.
The crossing guard had now crossed the athletic fields and was coming closer when the door opened. An old lady opened the door but to Gracie's surprise, her eyes glowed bright green like the grossing guards. Gracie gasped in shock and suddenly the old lady lunged forward and then Gracie suddenly felt dazed and like all feeling had completely left her. Gracie turned around and saw someone looking at her from inside a window of a house. Their eyes suddenly went wide and Gracie walked back towards the parking lot of the school like nothing had ever happened.

Re: Pirate101 Central's Spooky Short Story Contest

Once upon a time, a kingdom grew in a pumpkin patch and all of the pumpkins came to life. In this kingdom lived a youthful pumpkin maiden named Pam. Pam might have been a pumpkin, but her spirit was as vivacious and wretched as a humans. Everyone was absolutely terrified by her. She oppressed her own kind, skinned them and ate them. No one could stop her, for they were all too terrified.

In late September, she was abducted by an army of clockworks. The pumpkin people dreaded them more than they dreaded Pam. The clockworks tormented them endlessly. They shoot them till they’re nothing but a pile of guts and seeds, and cut them up into the most miniature pieces. Pam knew exactly what they wanted.

The first of October transformation day. She was dragged into a dark room. She was deconstructed, limb by limb, until all that was left was her soul.

“She’ll be a perfect addition to our team, sir. We’ve been watching her from a far for years. She’s absolutely horrible,” a deep voice exclaimed.

“Well done Rooke. Soon, we shall annihilate all the pumpkins and get rid of this Halloween business once and for all.”

“But, master, are you sure that’s a good idea? I mean come on. Halloween is the greatest,” Bishop questioned as he polished his glasses.

“Well, boo hoo for you then Bishop.”

Bishop stormed out of the room. He truly was disappointed. Halloween was his favorite time of the year. Kane emitted a bone chilling cackle as Pam was reconstructed into a clockwork. She was a very fair clockwork, made of the finest indestructible porcelain. Her soul was put into a chest and locked up. Overtime, her cruel soul began to turn into a pure one. Soon enough, her soul was able to break out of the box and return to its rightful owner. She grabbed at her chest, breathing heavily as her senses returned to her. She ran. As fast as her legs could carry her. Trailing behind her was a clockwork that she had become very close friends with and an army of clockworks at the command of Rooke. When she returned to the kingdom, the pumpkin people cowered with fear at her arrival. She reassured them.

“I want to help. The clockworks are coming, we must defeat them or you all will suffer forever,” Pam exclaimed.

“How will we defeat them? We’re just a bunch of pumpkins,” someone in the crowd shouted.

    “Bishop?”

The crowd gasped as Bishop came into view.

    “I’m on it”

Bishop smiled as he gave all the pumpkin people magical powers. The pumpkins were overwhelmed with excitement. This was the most powerful they had ever felt. Soon enough, an army of clockworks arrived. Pam and Bishop looked at each other. They grinned, recognizing what was going to happen would change their lives until the end of time.

Re: Pirate101 Central's Spooky Short Story Contest

Once again, Halloween was here, and once again, the citizens of Skull Island had taken to blowing out the pumpkins that lined the streets. Nobody knew where the small jack-o-lanterns came from, just that when kicked, opened, or breathed on, the small spirits inside would cackle and fly away. Those that had too much time on their hands spent hours freeing the tiny spirits. Kestrel mumbled under her breath, punting one of the tiny faces over the Kraken Skull’s Tavern. A small, glowing streak of orange darted out in the opposite direction, towards Skull Mountain. She traced its path, making careful note of the pumpkin’s destination. Over the years, the sense of fear that covered the island on Halloween night grew, as did the number of pirates who got sucked into the presents they opened; Kestrel believed she had found the source of the issue, or at least, a hint of the trail.

After stopping in the tavern to down a couple bottles of yum, the young pirate set off on a trail up the mountain, moodily kicking every little jack-o-lantern she spotted. All of their freed spirits traveled up to the same location, laughing hauntedly as they went. But what Kestrel found wasn’t what she had been prepared for. The little orange spirits oozed their way through the cracks in a splintered, rotting door, disappearing into a hollow interior. It was like the universe came to an end beyond the threshold; no sound, smell, breath of air was perceivable. She slipped into the darkness, expecting to plummet into nothingness, but her soft boots scuffed a solid floor. Exhaling a sigh of relief, Kestrel lit a torch and searched for the pumpkin spirits’ trail.

Her light caught several shapes lying along the floor, soft mounds, some of various texture. Kestrel squinted-- some of the mounds even seemed to have.. fur..? She crept closer, hand extended. Indeed, this shape was fur, and the one to her left, skin. Off to her right, there was a squishier mound that smelt a little. A cool breath of air slipped across the floor of the room accompanied by a soft groan. The first, furry mound she had investigated rose up on it’s legs, a hollow, rotting sack-- like a stuffed animal with hair falling out of its pores.
It gazed at Kestrel, head tilted in a way that might indicate curiosity if it weren’t for the empty caverns of its sockets, reaching for her longingly before it was attacked by an unknown force, thrashing wildly. An orange light flickered through the creature’s veins and into its eyes, followed by a savage grin.

Oh.. oh by Avery no. These corpses were being haunted by..
Her thoughts were interrupted by a cackle and light glow behind her, and Kestrel saw her own shadow cast long before her. She looked up at the newly illuminated corpse before her, expression one of horror, but not at the possessed zombie. A hand rested on her shoulder, voice whispering into her ear and echoing through her mind. “Kestrel…”
