What do you like about Pirate101?

I like the fact that I enjoyed finishing the game back in 2014 when it had 65 levels and I was 13 now I am 17 and I still enjoy the game.

I like the storyline and since I pay crowns as I go, it’s even more exciting because I’m always so excited to unlock another chapter of the storyline. I’ve been playing since I was 12 and now I’m 16. No one I know plays it but I couldn’t care less.

I really do enjoy everything about Pirate101; however, my favorite thing about pirate101 might be the magic I first felt when I met my first villain boss, Fin Dorsal. Meeting and recruiting monkey king might be a second.

I really like the combat system. As far as I know, there is no equal in the game industry. The closest thing is probably Fire Emblem, which is not an MMO.

The story is also really humorous, and has a lot of interesting references.

Re: What do you like about Pirate101?

I really like the story, both the humor and the dramatic elements. I like having an amazing crew that have personalities and disagreements, but that can all pull together to succeed on our quests. I love sailing my ships through the skyways, and sinking enemy ships to get new ship equipment.

I really love the fact that Pirate101 is a game that anyone from 10 to 100 can play and enjoy.

Re: What do you like about Pirate101?

Gosh, there's just so much to like!

I love sailing. The scenery, the music, and the enemy ships keep the skyways interesting. When you sail around instead of teleporting, you get the bigger picture for each world. It reminds you how broken and beautiful the Spiral is.

I also like the dialogue for the main storyline (and side quests). It's so much more than "go do this" or "go fight this guy." There's an actual story to it that draws you in. Each character has their own personality and background; there are no cookie-cutter characters. It's fun to learn more about my companions or other NPCs as the storyline progresses.

And of course I love the combat system as well. Who doesn't? Yes, there is strategy, but chance plays a role too. That's what I love most about it.

Re: What do you like about Pirate101?

Definitely the combat. The game is turned based so it's nice to be able to play it and not have to give it 100% your attention if you're not in the mood. But when you do, the fight can get pretty interesting and even stressful because of how chancy it could be. I also love how versatile each character you can be with all the flexible abilities from gear and how easy it is to obtain the gear (compared to other games with grinding the gear + pay-to-win enhancing + grind-to-socket, ugh!). It's pretty casual but at the same time strategic when you want it to (ex. solo Privateer vs Obsidian Captain Blood) making it overall fun!

Who said this game was easy?

Re: What do you like about Pirate101?

Having played since 2012, even with the recent bare minimum of new content, there is some aspects of the game I still appreciate.

    1. Gameplay
    2. Music
    3. Dialogue
    4. Scenery
    5. Cosmetics
    6. Story

Gameplay- Besides the classic Final Fantasy games, Fire Emblem series, Ghost Recon: Shadow Wars on 3DS, and Pokemon Conquest on the Nintendo DS, there's barely any other games with this type of "unit command" chess style turn-based combat. It's a unique style of combat I somehow find myself enjoying alongside tab targeting and real time action in MMORPGs to date.

Music- Nelson Everhart is one of my favorite video game composers to date. He needs to get more recognition for his work as much as Jeff Kurtenacker did for Wildstar. This man works Pro Tools like... a pro! Mixing and matching traditional instrument samples to sound organic with synthesized elements and recorded live sounds, Nelson knows how to add atmosphere with his music with every aspect of the game we step into.

Dialogue- Sometimes there is charm in cheesy dialogue. At other times, it's also about the convincing delivery. Pirate101 delivers both. I know a lot of players TEND TO SKIP THE DANG DIALOGUE, but really, most of the dialogue helps to provide context to the story and naturally involve our crew members into the adventure as well. Honestly, I find my crew members' input to be the most dialogue i can read because these battle units aren't just there for technical reasons. Anne, Ratbeard, Catbeard, El Toro, our first companon, etc. have been with us from the beginning to the end, and having them around keeps the player company and not truly alone in the Pirate101 universe.

Scenery- What I appreciate Pirate101 doing is open up the Spiral a heck of a lot more than pre-Arc 3 Wizard101 did. You are not consistently confined to a boxed-in space as you were in Wiz, so you eyes are opened to a wide array of landscape, giving the possibility of more exploration in unknown dangers, nooks and crannies you haven't stepped in before.

Cosmetics- Mounts and pets are standard protocol and aplenty. I do want to appreciate the wardrobe choices you can make for this game. Of course, NOT all bosses have COMPLETE gear sets (coughcoughARMADABOSSEScoughcough), but collecting them allows players to mix and match set pieces to enable their creativity for! Thanks to stitching, we can look like whoever/whatever we want with the stats of our favorite gear.

Story- Besides the impromptu ending, Pirate101 has one of the most compelling storylines of any MMORPG I have ever played. What helps is how elusive the Armada is as the prime enemy faction of the game. Going after the pieces of the Map of Marco Pollo draws us into newfound territory in different parts of the Spiral we haven't explored before. Hopefully after W101 is wrapped up with Empyrea part 2, we can continue where we left off from Valencia part 2. My gut feeling is that we HAVE TO return to Valencia for Contessa's promo quest; maybe we even can step into "New Valencia City" and/or "Trianon Palace" in Calabria Skyway! Maybe we might have to finish clean-up in the Machine and explore the Panopticon! How about that drip to Cadiz, the place of the height of Kane's power? The possibilities of where the story will go next is endless, and I truly believe Kingsisle can get the next level cap expansion worked on by next year, so we FINALLY have more to do outside farming Machine, Dreadnaught, Tower of Moo Manchu, etc.

The original storyline, having a crew, and being a pirate. Gives me nostalgia of Pirates of the Caribbean Online back when it existed.

Re: What do you like about Pirate101?

The combat system is well designed and allows tremendous variety. Battlefields can be small or large. There are different strategies you can use. Enemies can vary as can allies. Weapons are interesting and varied. This was one of the main factors that caused me to stop playing Wizard 101 and move to Pirate.

The other big factor was the companion system. There's a large cast of characters joining you on the quest with their own personalities and rivalries. Depending on your start of game choices, you can get a different experience with each character. While there is a lot of companion content, I wish there was more.

The story lines are good and well thought out, even at the side quest level. I'd guess they must have a big chart mapping out all these plot lines.

The humor and pop culture references make the game really fun for me. Wizard had this too but they really turned it up to 11 in Pirate.

Ease of play is another thing I like about it. A lot of MMORPGs go out of their way to make things difficult and require intense devotion to it to do well. I like a game I can play at a more casual, relaxing, level. With a few exceptions, Pirate provides this.

I get a lot of enjoyment out of it so I hope they continue to improve it and add to it so that I can continue to enjoy it.
