Familiar Faces - Guide to Companions That Can Be Recruited by All Pirates for Free

Storyline Companions - A pirate will recruit these companions along the way, whether they want them or not:

1. Bonnie Anne (Musketeer-Skull Island) recruited at Level 3
2. Ratbeard (Buccaneer-Skull Island) recruited about Level 10
3. Old Scratch (Witchdoctor-Skull Island) recruited about Level 12
4. El Toro (Swashbuckler-Cool Ranch) recruited somewhere Level 37-40
5. Monkey King (Swashbuckler-MooShu) recruited somewhere Level 40-50
6. Catbeard (Privateer-Marleybone) recruited somewhere Level 50-60
7. Gracie Conrad (Privateer-Marleybone) recruited somewhere Level 53-60
8. Hawkules (Buccaneer-Aquila) recruited level 60-70
9. Contessa Argento (Swashbuckler-Valencia) recruited about Level 70



Free Side Quest Companions that can be Recruited by All Pirates - If a pirate wants these folks on the crew, they have to do a little extra work for them.

1. Rooster Cogburn (Musketeer-Cool Ranch) recruited in Cooper’s Roost
2. Ju Hao (Swashbuckler-MooShu) recruited in Paths of Penance
3. Shiruku Neko (Swashbuckler-MooShu) recruited in
4. Zeena (Musketeer-Aquila) recruited in Achaea

That's okay. I created this list because I haven't yet figured out how to create the category for the wiki, like we have the categories for Privateer-Only Companions, etc. It occurred to me that new players may be curious about the companions that everyone can get.

I could try it if you haven't made one yet. What do you think we should call this category? Something like, "Any Class Companion" or something similar to that?

That's part of the thing - I was thinking "Universal Companions" or "All Class" but "Any Class" would work too.

We could call them "Non-Crown Shop Companions" as none of these companions have a crown shop counterpart, nor are they sold in the crown shop themselves. However, this list would end up including the Ninja Pig as its technically free and anyone could acquire it back in the day.

If not, then we could call them "Free for Any Class Companions"?

"Universal Companions" sounds cool, but I think it might not be explanatory enough in its name.

Since they're not gained by a choice (ignoring the 'yes' button you click upon recruitment), are required for story dialogue (the larger list), and don't have crown shop counterparts why not call them Special Companions? The subset that doesn't have dialogue after their (side) quest could be Special Side Quest Companions, I guess.

All and Any strike me as generic (another possible name) and seem to lessen the importance of these companions (story ones). I suppose All can be used (All for One & One for All) with significance behind it, as it's every class that can get them.

I'm glad this section of the wiki might come to be nonetheless.

My issue is there is no link to this page when you hover over the companions tab in the wiki.

They are all "Quest Reward" Companions, which can be found under "By How Acquired."
