No More Message Boards?

Players stopped using the Message Boards because Kingsisle negelected them -- they went for weeks at a time without new posts being approved. It was hard to remember if I'd even replied to a conversation, and then all of a sudden there are four replies all saying the same thing because it took two weeks to appear. Not to mention that questions posed by players were almost never answered officially, only by responses from other players. Lack of updates to the game being the main topic of conversation, even long-term persistent players like @anecorbie and myself were discouraged enough to give up on our memberships and those message boards.

I visit the Discord, but all of the spam there is distracting.

Williowdreamer is correct. There wasn't enough communication on the official boards (because there is only sporadic and minor content updates), so they neglected the forums. It's less effort for KI to endorse an official Discord server where players talk mostly to each other anyways with the only moderation required after a post/alert as opposed to increased safety measures on the official forums of previewing the content BEFORE its posted.

Besides the official Discord is mostly memes and discussions of stuff that has nothing to do with Pirate101......items that wouldn't make the official forums list for approval. It gives an appearance of community activity outside of the game.

What's funny is that posting to the official forums used to be listed as a membership perk.

I noticed that too. Apparently it's free-for-all now (which isn't bad, I s'pose, but that just removes another reason why a player would want to purchase a membership). A bit counterproductive, don't you think?

I love that we have an official place to chat without paying for a membership now. I'm a crowns player, so I never had a voice on the official forums. And I don't feel comfortable posting on the other social media platforms. That's the primary reason I made an account for W101 and P101 Central. Discord is admittedly chaotic at times, but I'll take that over not being able to talk at all. I only wish they'd done this years earlier when I had more time to play and chat, haha.

That's a good point, I guess. For the first 8 years, I did maintain a membership on one account, so I guess I took participation on the main message boards for granted. As more of us let membership lapse, even what little conversation there was eventually dried up.

Thanks for stopping by Central, though. It has been rather quiet here.
